HAMILTON Group

Life Science Robotics

Switzerland, USA, Great Britain, Germany, France

In 2003, HAMILTON Life Science Robotics and Life & Brain decided to embark on a common project. HAMILTON's expertise in automated liquid handling and Life & Brain's background in cell culture and embryonic stem cell differentiation served as a starting point for the development of an automated cell culture system called CellHost. From the first drafts to the validation of cell viability and maintenance of pluripotency during long-term culture, this strategic partnership has resulted in a commercial product and is pursued with the aim of implementing further downstream technology such as HTS systems.

Recently LIFE & BRAIN and HAMILTON joined forces to harness the 3D BioLevitatorTM culture system, a co-development of Hamilton and GCS (Global Cell Solution) for human stem cells. In the BioLevitatorTM culture system, cells are cultured on the Global Eukaryotic MicrocarrierTM (GEMTM) substrate under controlled conditions, thereby providing a scale-up solution under compact benchtop conditions.

Göttingen, Germany

P.A.L.M. Microlaser Technologies, a company of Carl Zeiss MicroImaging GmbH, and LIFE & BRAIN are collaborating to develop laser-based systems for stem cell handling and purification. Employing laser dissection and pressure catapulting technology of the PALM MicroBeam system, LIFE & BRAIN's stem cell platform develops new methods for the purification and enrichment of pluripotent embryonic stem cells and their derivatives.
